Nimmitabel is a small village in Cooma Monaro Shire, home to around 240 people.  There are another 600 resident in the surrounding rural area.

The main street is part of both the Monaro and Snowy Mountains Highways. The Monaro Highway runs from Canberra to Bombala in South East NSW, and on to join the Princes Highway at Cann River in Victoria.  The Snowy Mountains Highway runs from the Snowy Mountains through Cooma to the coast near Bega
